Running in memory of Jenny Spencer Nairn

Tax deductible
This is a fundraising page in memory of Jenny Spencer Nairn 1983-2018.

Our Next Challenge;

We are running Loch Ness marathon, &  some the 10k, on the 6th Oct, in memory of our kind and gentle friend Jenny who heartbreakingly took her own life at the end of August 2018.  Jenny loved her home in the Highlands, outdoor adventures and running. This had been one she'd spoken of us doing together, so we were inspired to complete this challenge in her memory.

A year on, just ahead of World Mental Health Day, on the 10th October, which this years focus is suicide prevention, a group of us as Jenny's friends are travelling  from Bristol (& London) to visit Jenny's homeland to #RunLochNess as a tribute to our friend. And to raise funds to develop a mental health ambassador initiative within the Goodgym Charity.

16 of us are running the 26.2 mile Loch Ness Marathon; Alice Whale, Charlie Powell, Chris Bennett, Christopher Lewis, Clo Slee, Danica Priest, Darren Mcmahon, Emma Rigby, Jonathon Trace, Julie Molley, Matt Garnett, Nick Baker, Paul Becker, Richard Giddings, Sarah Kappel and Sarah Moore.

And 4 are running the 10k route; Debs Redmond, Jack Bradley, Lisa Elliot, & Paul Redmond.

Most of our team developed friendships with Jenny as members of Goodgym, part of a national community of runners that combine getting fit with doing good. You run as a group to help local community projects, help older people with one off tasks or run regularly to visit an isolated older person.

Goodgym is now open to everyone in 55 areas across the UK. Its a cause and community that was important to Jenny. Like Jenny there's lots of different people from all walks of life that have been attracted to the Do Good, Feel Good factor, friendships, and well established benefits of running to improve mental well being. Many with their own relevant stories.  Although Goodgym started out aiming to tackle loneliness in isolated older people, one of its successes is that it is also tackling loneliness and isolation in the runners who participate in local group runs and become part of that community.

In Jenny's memory, Goodgym are supporting our bid to fundraise to develop a Mental Health Ambassadors initiative within Goodgym. We want to help break the stigma that exists and encourage an openness to talk about our mental health, raise awareness and encourage people to reach out for support, with funds that we raise being used to pay for mental health training for volunteers who will help to coordinate awareness raising activities.

Please support the development of this initiative and our efforts to #RunLochNess in Jenny's memory.
