Heart Transplant for Abraham Estrada

Hi, I’m Victoria Estrada and my 29 year old brother-in-law, Abraham Estrada, was just diagnosed with congestive heart failure on Monday, 2/12/24. He went into the ER early this week for what he thought was severe pneumonia. After the initial exam they realized it was something much deeper, and sent him for additional testing. After one scan, they found he had a large amount of fluid around his heart, and a blood clot. The left side of his heart has been working harder for an unknown amount of time, and is now enlarged. He was going to be sent to Phoenix or San Antonio to be treated by a specialist, but since he didn’t have insurance, they wouldn’t accept him. He is now on a temporary insurance plan, and has a hard road of medication treatment ahead of him in preparation for a heart transplant.

At 29 years old, he was in great health, had no pre-existing conditions and there is no family history of heart issues. He has so much life yet to live, and will need to be as strong and healthy as possible to receive possibly multiple heart transplants over the course of the rest of his life. We need support now as we prepare him for home management of his symptoms with large amounts of medications to keep his blood thin, as he awaits a transplant.
