First the coronavirus kept JC and Laurie from working. Then Laurie was furloughed from her position running the UMBS Dining Hall for the summer. Just when it looked like restrictions were lifting and JC could return to work, he was diagnosed with B-cell Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL).
The good news is that this type of cancer is very responsive to treatment and is one that people can actually be cured of. But this means more tests, drugs, treatment appointments, etc. for JC. Each of these has copays and deductibles, plus the insurance cost, itself.
When we approached Laurie about a fund, she was reluctant and said they don't want to impose on anyone. "We can manage. We always do." But then she listed off the things ahead and that have already happened: bone marrow biopsy, pet scan, bloodwork and cat scans, chemotherapy. "We have already seen doctors and more doctors. The bills will be starting to arrive and now we are paying for JCs health insurance out of our pockets."
So we'd like to give you the opportunity to help.
