Jake Cotter's fight to beat cancer!

Sime Darby Industrial Services is pulling together to raise funds for one of our own! Here is what Jake wanted to share with us all....

"I never thought I'd be told that I have cancer at 23 but a couple of days before I finished up work I was sat down and given the news.

I'm not sure how long I'll be going through chemo, but I've been given a figure of probably 6 months.

Having just started this new shitty season of life, I've been taken aback by the amount of support from the hospital's cancer care team, and most importantly, the genuine, solid support from my friends, family and my girlfriend.

To be honest, I've been just as stressed about a knee injury that's been stopping me from riding my bike and running the way I want, so I reckon I'm in a pretty good mental state to just do it and get through it, and to be fair, if you're going to get cancer, lymphoma seems to be the way to go (super treatable).

Special thanks to Michael for personal and real support from the start, just an unreal amount of kindness and going the extra mile sort of stuff that anyone who knows you would not at all be surprised to hear.

I'd also easily write a whole other one of these dropping names and telling stories of the meaningfull conversations I had with workmates just before finishing up.

Can't thank everyone enough for the overwhelming support and heart-warming chats. Even offers for lifts to the hospital and a number to call if I ever needed. Insane. Keen to see you all again soon and get back to making swarf to the sound of Troy's speaker - Jakey"
