Jade's Japan Journey

Donation protected
Hi there!
I am Jade McClellan, a young lady with a heart for missions and a passion for Japan's language and culture. My interest in all things Japan is not a fleeting fancy. During my late elementary and early middle school years, I sought to convince my parents that I seriously desired to learn Japanese. To my complete surprise, they allowed me to quit Spanish and enrolled me in a Japanese class during my 7th grade year.

Moving Forward
I have been doing my best to learn what I consider to be an amazingly difficult yet fascinating language ever since. Throughout various Japanese teachers and curriculums, my aim and goal in learning the language has stayed the same: to become fully fluent and one day go to Japan to share smiles, learn lots, and inspire faith in God.

Why Japan?
That's a great question! While Japanese friends and Hello Kitty toys probably piqued my interest in Japanese language and culture, I believe that it is God who placed this on my heart. With the help of talented Japanese teachers/tutors and amazing friends, I am mildly conversant. As a non-traditional student who loves adventure, my family and I have decided that I will take a year off of formal school to experience a broader life education-- pursuing missions and fluency in Japan during the greater part of the 2015-16 school year.

Exciting Opportunity
Seemingly out of thin air, an opportunity has developed for me to travel to Mt. Akagi Institute in Gunma-ken, Japan. Located about 80 miles from Tokyo near the picturesque Akagi mountain, the Institute's focus is to share and to educate on the gift of holistic, healthy living and to spread the love of Christ. Years ago, the Institute nearly died, but, beating the odds, today they are confidently bouncing back with tenacity, creativity, and innovation. Inspired to do more for the community, their latest project is to open an English community center.

Where do I fit in?
Here is where I, an American girl, can safely assist. Anticipating its grand opening towards the end of 2015, I will mainly be working in a teaching capacity at Mt. Akagi's English school. Although my main post will be at the English school, I intend to be flexible and available to provide help and support within the Institute wherever I am needed. This will include working in the bakery Mount Akagi operates to bless the community with healthy and delicious baked goods. I am truly speechless and beyond grateful for this exciting opportunity. I feel so blessed. However, I realize my complete inability to make this opportunity a reality without the support of friends, family and those who believe in the mission of Mt. Akagi Institute. I am completely incapable of grasping this without your help.

How to Support
Since Mt. Akagi Institute so graciously provides for the lodging and food of its staff members, your donations will go towards flights to and from Japan with the accompaniment of one of my parents plus small travel expenses. My projected leave time is September/October 2015. I ask for your support through prayers, donations, and sharing my campaign with your friends! Please keep an eye opened for scheduled concerts, events, and other ways to support.

Thank you! ありがとうございます。
