I am thrilled to announce that I will be marching this summer with the Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps this summer! I received my contract after their 2015 January Audition Camp and I am looking forward to the next camps and rehearsals moving forward into this season.
Spirit of Atlanta is a member of Drum Corps International or DCI, which is essentially an elite marching circuit consisting of brass, percussion and dance enthusiasts from the ages of 15-22.
This is an incredibly exciting opportunity that not every person has the skills to achieve, most groups hold auditions where spots are incredibly competitive. It requires a desire to learn but also a professional attitude. The less glamorous part is that it is a very expensive activity, as part of my contract, I am required to contribute for all of my camp and tour fees for the entire summer. This accounts for food, transportation, housing, instrument maintenance, and uniform maintenance and any other miscellaneous costs for the summer and winter camps. Move ins with the corps are on May 24th and from there we begin tour, traveling to shows across the united states to compete with other drum corps until August. I am incredibly excited to be a part of this wonderful family called Spirit of Atlanta and any donation would help to make this dream a reality!
I've learned over the past four summers with Atlanta CV, a DCA group, that drum corps has much more to offer than just music. While that is an excellent thing to take away from it, there are things such as leadership skills, time management, team building, personal growth, self discipline, physical strength and developing resources and connections professionally.
