Give Back to Dick Woolf

"A Teacher........takes a hand, opens a mind, touches a heart and shapes the future."

From 1965 to 2000 Dick Woolf helped shape the future of thousands of Keyport Central and High School students.  As a teacher and a coach his office door was always open to offer a shoulder to lean on or hand to lift a student up.  Mr. Woolf was a beloved and special kind of teacher who possessed just the right combination of discipline, kindness, enthusiasm, genuine caring and humor.  He always had a quick smile but at the same time he demanded respect and returned it to his students.  Dick Woolf genrously donated his time to coach our intramural teams, supervise  'Open Gym" on Friday nights at the High School and later at the Kearney Mansion "Teen Center."

Now it is our turn to generously give back to Dick Woolf.

Hurricane Sandy took a toll on our area, some hit more than others.  Mr. Woolf's house was flooded during the storm.  Like too many of our friends and neighbors, he was unable to get help from FEMA or his insurance company.  The water flooded his heating system and the first floor of his home, damaging the heating system , roof and causing extreme mold.  At the same time Mr. Woolf was hit with another storm, a personal storm.  While he and his wife were raising their two granchildren  his beloved wife lost first one then both legs from a lifelong battle with diabetes.  It became impossible for him to continue to care for her at home.   Doctors recommended a nursing home so she could received the 24 hour care that she required.  Paying for a nursing home put a huge finanial burden on Mr. Woolf.  Anyone who has had a family member in a nursing home understands the heavy financial burden.  This has left Mr. Woolf unable to afford the crucial repairs to his home.  He and his grandchildren are living in a house with a damaged heating system and extreme mold - it is now a health risk.  With winter coming soon it has become URGENT to get the repairs completed as soon as possible!

Now it is OUR TURN to GIVE BACK TO DICK WOOLF.
A group of former students has gotten together to raise funds to make the necessary repairs to our former teacher's home.  This includes a new, rerouted heating system, removal and replacement of mold infested walls, floors and possibly more.

We are asking all former KCS and KHS students, teachers and friends to donate to help Mr. Woolf.  If we all give we can make a big difference in the life of someone who gave so much to his students,  colleagues and the town of Keyport.  Mr. Woolf gave all us of so much - we can all do a little to give back to him!
