Internship/Volunteering

Hello! I am hoping to travel to Ticuantepe, Nicaragua this summer for two months to volunteer at Atelier Favela, a cultural center located in Ticuantepe, Nicaragua. Through volunteer participation, the center offers classes in art, English, music and Capoeira, a traditional Brazilian dance. Atelier Favela serves as a source of inspiration and artistic freedom for the children of Ticuantepe, despite difficult circumstances. The cultural center is not only a place for education in the arts, but also somewhere for students and their families to gather for community events. The knowledge shared at Atelier Favela is rooted in lived experience with the ultimate goal of transforming self and community. 

I plan to both teach and participate in classes in music, art, dance and English. Interning at Atelier Favela will mean the opportunity to pursue my passion for non-profit work. I aim to witness the beautiful work that the organization does and how they entrust members of the Atelier Favela community to act as both teachers and students.

Volunteering at Atelier Favela will also enable me to pursue a passion for teaching guitar and singing, while incorporating my passions for songwriting and art. I plan to teach one-on-one guitar lessons  along with lessons in art and English. I also hope to collaborate with fellow musicians involved with Atelier Favela.
 
Throughout my stay with Atelier Favela, I also plan to post an open blog every other day, sharing my photos, videos, and experiences!
