IVI-IPO Voter Education Drive
Spende geschützt
Dear Friend:
On June 16, 2020, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed legislation to expand vote by mail and promote safe participation in the upcoming general election this fall. Governor Pritzker along with the Illinois Senate and House recognize the urgency in this moment in time to improve race relations and create economic mobility for marginalized communities of color in our Country.
Since 1944, IVI-IPO (Independent Voters of Illinois - Independent Precinct Organization) has fought for government accountability and transparency. In every election, we endorse candidates that share our common values about political independence and the ideological vision for the way the government should work for its citizens.
As the oldest Political Action Committee in Illinois, Our Endorsement Matters! For more than 75 years, the IVI-IPO has endorsed and supported many candidates who would soar to great political heights and impact the lives of millions of people through public policy and legislation while promoting good government. To name a few of these political legacies including: Former U.S. President, Barack Obama (D), Former U.S. Senator Carol Mosely Braun (D), Former U.S. Congressman Luis Gutierrez (D), U.S. Representative, Jesus “Chuy” Garcia (D), Former Illinois State Comptroller, Judy Barr Topinka (R), Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle (D), and Former City of Chicago Mayor, Harold Washington(D).
This year is a very important election year at every level of government. It is a well-known fact that elections have consequences. These consequences impact our daily lives, and the future conditions which our children and grandchildren will have to endure. For our members, whether those conditions are favorable or not favorable starts with upholding the right for every citizen to vote even if it’s via mail-in ballot.
During this COVID-19 pandemic, the Nation’s civil liberties are being challenged by endangering our election rights through voter suppression.
IVI-IPO needs your help! This summer we will be launching a grassroots advocacy campaign to educate voters throughout Illinois. Our goal is to raise $5,000 for voter registration and communication expenses to include but not limited to printing, mailing, website enhancements, and social media post boosts. The purpose of our grassroots advocacy campaign is to ensure that all Illinoisans receive mail-in ballots and are educated about the new rules regarding the November 2020 general election process. To accomplish our goal, IVI-IPO is partnering with several faith-based organizations, labor unions, and advocacy groups. In July, we will launch our first voter education mailing to our partners’ members about mail-in ballots and safety precautions about the upcoming general election this fall. It is far past the time to promote the civic duty of voting and actively engage youthful voters in this way.
