Hi! We're Jay and Kerri, a queer couple from Philadelphia, PA. Jay is a transgender man and Kerri is a bisexual cisgender woman. We've been together for seven years and married for two, and now our dream is to expand our family and have a baby! We are committed to our dream, but we can't do it alone. We need your help to pay for fertility treatment and welcome a baby into our lives.
For folks like us, having a baby is an expensive process. The best option for us right now is an IVF pregnancy using one of Jay's eggs and a donor sperm, with Kerri carrying the baby to term. Unfortunately, Pennsylvania law does not require insurance companies to provide fertility coverage -- to move forward with this process, we have to pay everything out of pocket.
All told, the cost of the procedure will be around $15,000. This is a combination of payments to the fertility clinic, the pharmacies, and the sperm bank where we'll get the donor material. Here's the breakdown of costs:
$11,500: Fertility clinic package price
$500-1500: Necessary fertility medications
$600-800: Donor sperm purchase and shipping
$500-1000: Extra medical expenses (visit copays, testing not included in package, etc.)
So far, we have saved $6,000 towards these costs, but we have to pay the full amount at our next clinic appointment on Friday, October 12, 2018. We're asking for your help to raise the remaining $9,000.
No matter how much we raise, we're committed to going forward with this process. Any remaining balance is something we'll have to finance in order to start IVF treatment. We're prepared to do that, but we also know that the less we have to finance, the better we can provide for our child when it is born. Your gift will help us save money on interest, and that's money we can put towards all the things we need to give our baby the best possible start in life. If we are fortunate enough to exceed our goal, any extra funds will go straight to those extra costs: diapers, car seats, cribs, and preparing the nursery for our little one's arrival.
