IVF for Gay Teacher Couple

Donation protected
Generally, we would never consider discussing our journey, let alone asking for help with it, but it appears we have exhausted all of our resources.  Much to our surprise, sperm costs a lot more than we ever would have expected.  When the hope of finding a "known donor" faded, costs grew exponentially.

Since getting married last year, we have tried to get pregnant using IUI every month with no success.  After paying for procedures, medications, and the necessary “biological contributions” these lesbians lack – none of which are covered by our insurance – our out-of-pocket expenses have totaled almost $10,000.  These months of disappointment have been heartbreaking, but this journey has only strengthened our bond as a couple, and reaffirmed our commitment to each other and our future family.

With IUI being only 20% effective, IVF is our next and final step.  Unfortunately, the costs associated with IVF are exorbitant: for one month’s IVF attempt, we will have to pay more than all of our past IUI procedures, combined.  Here’s what we’re looking at so far:

Donor Sperm from bank + S&H: $1,845  (ordered 3/29)
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF): $9,000
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI): $3,000
Preimplantation genetic screening (PGS): $3,000
Anesthesia: $600
Medications: $8,000

Getting pregnant is often difficult.  But the frustration for us is not that we’re trying with no success, it’s that we simply can’t afford to try any more.  Expense aside, this is about our dream of sharing our love with a child of our own.

I was lucky to have two of the most amazing parents any kid could dream of, and I so badly wanted to be that person for my own child, to give my kids the amazing childhood my parents gave me.  The child you are contributing to will have:
·      Two moms who will love and support them unconditionally
·      Three dogs to cuddle and play with
·      A cute little craftsman house on a sunny street
·      A large network of extended family and friends who can't wait shower him/her with love

We are both teachers who have dedicated our lives to the welfare and learning of other children.  Please help us “bring our work home”.  Thank you.
