Ivan Anjo Diniz is an environmental protector from Brazil who is devoting his life to preserving the ecosystems and supporting the communities in the Cerrado (Savannah) where he lives. This savannah is in central Brazil and is one of the richest and most diverse biomes on the planet. It is also the source of eight of the twelve biggest rivers in Brazil and as such, is vital to the survival of the rainforest itself, all of Brazil and ultimately the planet.
Farmers and miners are being encouraged to exploit the land for GM soya production and mining for minerals and criminals are setting fires deliberately so the land can be cleared. A piece of land the size of a football pitch will be destroyed in the next hour the effects of which are irreversible!
Ivan is supporting a variety of different projects in the Cerrado, including implementing solar power for the poorest Afro-Brazilian communities, organising volunteer fire fighting services to combat the raging fires and education projects teaching local people to live sustainably and use plants from the savannah for medicines.
Here in the UK we are raising funds to support these projects which will have such a huge impact on the ground in Brazil. Any donation is welcome of any size. Thank you.
