The Inverness County Accessibility Committee was formed in the Fall 2017. The goal of the committee is to bring accessibility awareness to members of the community. In early 2018, the committee partnered with the Inverness Development Association resulting in the Inverness beach becoming the first fully inclusive beach in Atlantic Canada.
Representing the Inverness County Accessibility Committee, Cal MacQuarrie was approached to be a part of the Inverness Park Development team. He spent hours researching different park features, designs, and equipment for inclusive playgrounds. Cal dreamed of a place where children of any level of ability could play free from physical, emotional, and social barriers.
Unfortunately, Cal passed away on March 31, 2021. Today would have been his 48th birthday. To fulfill Cal's wishes, the Inverness County Accessibility Committee is collecting memorial donations. All funds will be used for equipment that facilitates an all inclusive play experience for children. The equipment will be for the beach or the future playground.
If an individual would rather make a memorial donation in person, please address any cheques to the Inverness County Accessibility Committee and deliver to the Royal Bank in Inverness. The Go-Fund Me page will be left active until the funding goal is met.
Cal had an ability to use playfulness and humor to build relationships. He did not allow his physical limitations to hold him back from having fun. No matter how much he will be missed, "play" will always be an important part of our memories with him. Thank you!
