Help Provide Internet Access in Skid Row

Greetings people,
Many individuals - housed and unhoused - in the Skid Row neighborhood do not have access to wifi or internet.
With in-person programming closed for weeks already, staying "connected" and informed during these times is not easy.
Those who depend on physically visiting their mobile provider's store each month to purchase the next month of data, are unable to do so.
It is nearly impossible to access public wifi as the few public places where wifi is available are closed. In order to access any free wifi hotspot offered by certain providers, folks need to venture out, find these locations, and follow login and account set up processes.
This is not only an internet access issue, its a public health issue.
This is essential during a time when the global pandemic and the public reaction to it are re-wiring our movement patterns, social behaviors and affecting our mental health.
This is not a new issue...access to information is a necessity - pandemic or no pandemic.
Thats why we are starting this campaign.
Originally planning to purchase a bulk of Data Only SIM cards to distribute, we have decided after many conversations and careful thought that we will be purchasing individual MI-FI devices. These devices are a much better option, and can get individuals connected to our Skid Row programs much faster.
Your contribution will:
- help ALL people stay connected to each other as our community spaces are halted
- Provide a way for individuals to access online resources on where to find open rec centers and shelters that have vacancies on a daily basis.
- help individuals gain access to tools that many take for granted, like ZOOM.
- Provide a way people can stay informed and updated about how to stay healthy and SAFE during this time
