International Theatre Festival in Blantyre, Malawi

Hey,

Our names are Julius and Lukas from Germany, we are 18 and 20 years old and we're volunteering at the Solomonic Peacocks Theatre in Blantyre, Malawi. It's a theater organization that is committed to social education for the population and creates a space for personal development.

Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world. Climate change is effecting the population more than ever, due to droughts and floods. Combined with the current hyper-inflation and educational poverty, things result in a high crime rate, corruption and an ever-increasing suicide rate.
The corona pandemic and the terrible flooding caused by Cyclone Freddy (at the beginning of the year with over 1000 deaths) have worsened the situation. The country's children in particular are the victims of these disasters.

The Solomonic Peacocks Theatre tackles precisely these aspects with a variety of projects and events, always ensuring that it does not make any financial profit from its activities.

With the annual "Easter Theatre Festival", the only international theater festival in the whole of Malawi, the Solomonic Peacocks Theatre gives artists from all over the world a stage to present their work.
The Easter Theatre Festival is dated for the 22.-24. March next year. The goal is, to grow the arts scene and to bring theatre near to the people and the youths.

In this fifth edition we are presenting drama, poetry, comedy, dances and storytelling.
We expect artist from all over the world such as Malawi, Tanzania, South Africa, Eswatini, Greece, Spain, France, Germany, Iran and Barbados. In addition, there will be a lot of local schools invited.

Appart from the perfomances, the festival offers workshops for young people, opening them the door into the world of arts, and possibly building up the path for a future career.
There will be lots of experts coming from abroad to Blantyre, to give all of their knowledge to the next generation of artists.

As already said, the festival is non-profit oriented, so YOU can help with your funds, to create unforgettable moments to share arts to the young people.
The donations we'll receive will be exclusively used for the youth-workshops, transportation costs and accomodations for the artists.

Every Euro counts!
