International Medical Aid Study Abroad 2023

Hi everyone!

I am so excited to say that from June 17, 2023 - July 15, 2023 I have been given the opportunity to study abroad in East Africa with International Medical Aid (IMA). IMA is a highly competitive medical internship program in association with Johns Hopkins University. Throughout this internship I will be shadowing nurses/physicians, participating in direct patient care, leading health-literacy seminars for those in need, and witnessing firsthand the healthcare system in a third-world country.

I have been assigned to work at Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital - the second largest hospital in Kenya with 750 beds that serves the Coastal Region of Kenya (a population of approximately 6 million people). I will be going through 4 clinical rotations in the Casualty/Emergency/Minor Theater (surgical) Department, Maternity Department (OB/GYN), Pediatrics Department, and Internal Medicine Department.

As a former collegiate athlete, my entire life has been volleyball - up until December, 2022. With this new-found space to pursue my career, I have dove head first into service. I have discovered a passion for pouring into the most vulnerable populations and it is a dream come true to take this passion internationally.
