Inspiration, move me brightly

The reason for this note is to update our friends and family. First and foremost, thank you for your gracious donations. The good news is we reached our original goal! However, we are burdened with the reality of more work to do financially. Therefore, we are increasing the goal to satisfy our family’s needs.

Thank you and happy holidays.

Love,
Joe & Melissa

Inspiration, move me brightly.

Team Cosgrove, Joe and Melissa recently requested we reach out to our friends and community to help them get above water financially. It is never easy to ask for financial help, but I’m hopeful we all can give what we can to be the inspiration that they need to get through this tough time.

For those of you who don’t know, Joe contracted a horrible bacterial infection called necrotizing fasciitis. The bacterial infection spread throughout his body and has resulted in loss of both of his legs and limited mobility of his arms and hands. Joe and Melissa went through unimaginable circumstances to come through today in tact as a family, raising their two kids.

Although you will never see Joe without a smile, he faces many daily challenges. Joe is quadriplegic and needs 24-hour care. He lives in a nursing home to get the care he needs: getting into and out of bed, help with feeding, bathing, going to the bathroom, and medication. Probably the most painful of his trials, in his own words, “I cannot hug my children or kiss my wife.”

Thankfully, through rehab, Joe has regained the ability to eat with assistance and talk. For this, we are all grateful! Despite what life has given him, every time I see Joe, he makes me smile and laugh. The tragedy has not changed who Joe is and his wit and humor still make him one of my favorite people to talk about our shared love of music and live shows.

Melissa has blown us away with her ability to handle this extraordinary situation. She lives at home and has sole responsibility of raising their 10 year old twins. She is an absolute rock star mom and wife! The kids both excel in school, are all-star athletes and all-around great kids.

Truly, this family, is an inspiration to me and my family. They never ask for favors or complain, but the time has come to provide them with help as they attend to their troubling financial situation.

Thankfully, Joe’s insurance covers his primary care. However, as you can imagine, there are many unpaid bills that have accumulated. Melissa visits Joe often and helps with caretaking duties, accompanying him to his doctor’s appointments, etc. Working full-time would be next to impossible for Melissa as a single mom and caretaker of her beloved husband. With old debt, on-going bills, a house payment, and recent legal debt, things are really tough right now.

Joe asked me to share his words with you - “It is with great appreciation that I express my gratitude towards those who can give and those who are only able to read my story.  One of the best ways you can contribute is by sharing on Facebook with your friends. Once again, your generosity and prayers mean so much to me and my family. Thank you so much!”

The Cosgrove family could really use your generosity and inspiration!!
