Inside My Head - National Tour!

I'm Zak Sandler, and I've created this campaign because I believe that, in a time of great polarization, mental health and music have the power to unite us all.

I've played piano on Broadway for Wicked, Mean Girls, Motown, and The Color Purple, and I've won numerous musical awards including the Fenno Heath Award for writing a new Yale Song. This fundraiser will benefit Inside My Head, my original musical about my mental condition (I don't like the term "illness"), which spontaneously (and unwelcomingly) emerged during my junior year of college. In the show, I've created characters out of the different parts of my brain, and pre-recorded them so they sing to me.

Inside My Head provides an inside look into my "disordered" brain in a way that is light-hearted, relatable, and fun. After every performance there is a group discussion about the show and mental health on campus / in the community.

This show is important because our world is experiencing a mental health crisis like never before- stress, anxiety, and depression are at an all time high, and rising exponentially among high school and college students. I believe that music has a unique power to touch the soul even amongst those of us the least open to speaking about mental health. The point of our campaign is to raise awareness, provide insight, and accelerate the essential worldwide conversation on mental health.

The funds will be used to:

1. Subsidize schools that can't afford the full payment on their own (20% of funds)

2. Pay the people who make this dream into a reality: director, rehearsal space, travel, branding/marketing guru, and later: graphic design, web design, social media, videography (75% of funds)

3. Cover new equipment: new recording and notation software (5% of funds)
