In Memory of Kali: Help Fund A Hope's Clinic
Tax deductible
Hi and thank you for visiting this page. The photo you see is my dear Kali Malicious*. I lost her on February 2, 2025, when she was 16 1/2 years old. She suddenly started having trouble going to the bathroom, and she went downhill very fast. But I'm not here to be sad. I'm here, because a couple of weeks after I lost Kali, I heard about a local shelter in Milton, Florida, that's building a new spay/neuter clinic. To help pay for it, they're letting people name rooms in the building in exchange for a donation. I looked at their chart, and I thought, "I'd love to name a room after Kali." I can't really afford to donate $2,500, which is the minimum. So, I put that thought out of my head. Except, it didn't go out of my head.
So many things around me make me think of Kali. I found Kali on the side of a road when she was about five weeks old. Our first Halloween together, I dressed up as her. The next year, I found these cute devil horns for cats, and so I got my own devil horns and dressed up as Kali wearing her devil horns. It became a tradition; every year Kali got a new hat, and I got a matching hat for the costume. No, Kali didn't enjoy wearing her hats. She barely tolerated it for a minute and a half to get a picture.
She made up for it in other ways, though. She was so funny. And clever. And creative - she used to pile up toys and other things as "art installations" throughout the house. So often she made me laugh. And I bought all kinds of things with black cats on them. The soap dispenser in the bathroom is a Kali. I have nightshirts with Kalis all over them, and a lap blanket, and nail clippers, and jewelry, and of course Halloween decorations that I insisted weren't just for Halloween, because it's Kali.
So, these last couple of weeks, I think of Kali, and then I think again that I wish I could memorialize her by making a donation to A Hope for Santa Rosa County, so a room in their clinic can have her name on it. It's not just a sign, it's a way to help other cats and their human parents for years to come.
If we get at least $2,500, she can get a closet named after her. Doesn't "Kali's Closet" have a nice ring to it? If we get as much as $10,000, she could get her name on an exam room. No matter how much is raised, even if it's not enough to name a room after her, it will all go to A Hope, so your gift will still benefit a good cause.
Thank you for your time, and if you are so inclined, for your donation.
*Kali went through a phase in her kittenhood when she was very vicious. She needed a middle name for scolding.
