Hi I’m Chris. My partner is jemma. She’s 37 and until 3 1/2 years ago she was a fit reasonably healthy woman, who worked hard as a support care worker and enjoyed life to the fullest.
3 and a half years ago our life’s were turned upside down. She fell and tripped up a kerb. She was diagnosed with an ankle Sprain. 10 days later still in a lot of pain we went back to hospital to be told that she had intact broken her leg. The break was slow to heal and after 8 weeks in a cast she was left to hobble out of the hospital with one shoe on still in a lot of pain. After some back and forth visits to the hospital. It was agreed that she could either live with the pain for the rest of her life or have an operation to help fix the issue. She opted for the operation and that is when things got worse.
after the opp the wound from it started to give jemma pain. That much pain she considered cutting her self with a knife from the kitchen to detract her brain from the pain near the wound. After telling her surgeon this he got her back in and we was told that it looked like the onset of a condition called crps. A nerve based condition that causes untold pain. No pain killers have touched the pain she’s tried everything going. She’s tried every treatment that was on offer and we are now at a stage that in the next two weeks she is going to have her right leg amputated above the knee. A drastic measure but one that will hopefully give her a break from the constant pain she is in.
she has lost her job. Her independence and a lot of herself and I’m hoping by raising as much as we possibly can we can put the money towards aids such as a mobility scooter to make going out easier than having to push herself in a wheelchair and other things we need to adjust and adapt around the house to make her life easier as occupational health don’t want to help until the leg is off.
while all this has been going on she also had stage 4 endometriosis and had a full hysterectomy last year.
the last 3 and a half years have been hell for her and as a family unit.
