Raising funds to volunteer in Guatemala
An amazing opportunity to volunteer in Guatemala has come my way and I am thrilled for the experience. Recently I have had a calling to devote my time in a way that can help those in need. I am ready to share my story as to why.
Last year I made a decision to deal with my Dad's alcoholism in a way that I thought would help him and me. He has been battling this disease my whole life. Only until about a year ago, I hadn't realized how much this affected our relationship; I was numb to it in some ways, or used to it. We have always been extremely close and it was a hard to have a conversation about the future of our relationship. I decided that we could only continue our relationship if he would receive help. He has not since chosen to get any type of help. I am still hopeful one day he will decide to take steps toward getting sober. Since being able to have peace that I can no longer fight this battle for him, I want to use that energy in a more productive way.
It has become a passion to help those who truly want help, and have little control over their situation. The organization I will be traveling with, Hearts in Motion (follow link for more info)
http://heartsinmotion.org/, works together with volunteers to provide medical needs to children and families in a village near Antigua. The non-for-profit organization has their own orphanage. Providing for the children will be the most rewarding aspect of journey.
This is my first volunteer trip abroad, so there are a lot of unknowns for me, however while in Guatemala I plan to use my amateur photography skills to raise future money for the people who live there. I couldn't be more excited and ready for the chance to be a part of something so special.
Fundraising is new to me and I realize this trip will not be possible without it, so I am asking for your help to be a part of this journey! If you have any questions or care to make an offline donation please email me at [email redacted]. The trip is 10 days and taking place July 6th-15th. Thank you for all your support!!
