Angie's Road to Recovery: A Story of Resilience and Fire Safety
Thank you for taking the time to check out Angie's story. She truly is a vibrant young woman who lights up every room with her infectious laugh and unwavering optimism. For those who don't know us, my name is Jillian (Jay), and I'm fundraising for a very special friend, Angelie, (Angie). In early October 2024, Angie suffered a devastating kitchen accident while at home alone and learning to cook. Unaware of the dangers of frying, a pot of oil combusted when she removed the lid, causing flames to quickly erupt. In a naive attempt to control the flames Angie sprayed water on the pot, quickly spreading fire across her kitchen. In a selfless act to protect her cat (Zara) and upstairs neighbors, Angie tried to move the flaming pot, resulting in severe second and third-degree burns to her arms and hands, and first-degree burns to her face, neck, chest, and back.
Thankfully, her first-degree burns have healed well, and she's rocking a new short haircut! However, Angie's arm and hand burns required two skin graft surgeries and weeks of hospitalization. During this time, she very bravely endured each unfamiliar procedure and painful bandage changes daily (that were almost unbearable to watch). She is coming to terms with this life-altering event and has begun adjusting to a new way of life. Through it all, Angie has shown incredible vulnerability, gratitude for the support of loved ones, and inspiring resilience.

This accident has left Angie with mounting medical bills due to treatments that are necessary for her recovery. This GoFundMe aims to help alleviate the financial burden of her emergency room visit, hospital stay, and surgeries. Any amount you can contribute will be deeply appreciated.

Even if you can't donate, please read on to learn important fire safety tips and share this page to spread awareness. Knowledge can save lives, and this information could prevent similar tragedies. We also hope this page connects Angie with others who have experienced similar accidents.
Fire Safety Awareness:
- Heat oil slowly and keep the pot uncovered.
- Have a working fire extinguisher readily available in your kitchen.
> Class ABC fire extinguishers work on grease, oil and kitchen fires.
> Class K is specifically for combustible cooking.
- Install and maintain smoke detectors.
- Educate Your Family: Make sure everyone in your household knows what to do in case of a fire.
In Case of a Fire:
- If a oil/grease fire starts, DO NOT use water. Water will spread the fire. Smother the flames with a lid or baking soda if the fire is small and contained.
- Use a fire extinguisher rated for flammable liquids (Class ABC or K) if the fire is not out of control.
- Evacuate Immediately: Get everyone out of the house immediately and call 911 or your local Fire Department from a safe location.
- Let Firefighters Handle It: They know best, let them take over. You can help by providing them with information about the location of the fire.
Thank you x 1000 for your support and for helping Angie on her road to recovery ❤️
