Ignite Hope Reno - Care packages for the homeless

My name is Sidney Wilcox, the founder of Ignite Hope Reno. I am from Las Vegas and moved to Reno to study at UNR. Being from Las Vegas, I am unfortunately used to seeing the poverty stricken streets with a huge homeless population, however, when I moved to Reno I was surprised and heartbroken to see the immense amount of people suffering from homelessness, especially downtown, minutes from the UNR campus. As of January 2019, Nevada recorded an estimated 7,169 people experiencing homelessness on any given day, as reported by Continuums of Care to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). I have always wanted to do something to make a difference in their lives and start the decline, but never knew how I could.
The more I talked about it with my mom, she gave me the idea to use the power I do have to bring our community together and encourage everyone to want to help. I started as a movement to raise money towards creating care packages to give out to the homeless population of Reno. My goal is to supply them with things that will ignite a little bit of hope in them when it is so easy to feel alone. These care packages are not only going to be filled with practical things to make their lives a little easier, but they will also be a reminder that things will get better and there are people out there who SEE them and LOVE them.
So what I am asking you to do, if you feel it in your heart that you want to make a difference in someones life, is to donate however much you are able to, no donation is too small. As the winter time is approaching, we are aiming to raise $1000 by the New Year so we can not only spread hope but also warmth this season. Your money will be used to purchase the contents of these care packages, and I along with other volunteers, will assemble the packages and disperse them all around the city. The smallest donation can make the biggest difference in someone's life by giving them a reason to keep on living and make them feel loved.
