Hillary Kaplan is my best friend and her 11-year-old daughter, Haylan, is as close to a daughter as I'll ever have. Last night, they suffered a devastating loss as their two German shepherds got out of the house and were hit by a train. One was killed immediately, and the other has been in the vet emergency room since last night. She is expected to make it, but it will be very expensive. Hillary has helped homeless people that she has seen around her town, she has helped stray dogs, and has fostered more dogs than I can count. She's always thinking about others and trying to help her community. This devastating loss comes one year after her daughter lost her father and right after the first week of school, which is supposed to be a joyous time for a young 11-year-old girl. Instead, she witnesses another tragic loss. Hillary and Haylan are very sad and devastated, but more than that, Hillary doesn't know how she's going to pay for this or even if she will be able to cremate the one dog because that is very expensive as well. Hillary has always helped other people and now it's time for the community to help Hillary. Any money that people can donate will be used exclusively for vet bills to help cremate the one dog and hopefully help in the recovery of the second dog who is still alive.
