Husting Studio Scholarship Fund '16

Donation protected

My name is Lauren Husting, and I'm a trombonist. It's my life and soul, and has been for over 20 years.

I'm also an educator. I love to see people of all ages make music and I love to help them access new ways to play their instruments and perform.

Unfortunately, music education, and in particular private music instruction for children, comes at a high premium in our society. Oftentimes those that can afford individual lessons on their instrument are already a part of strong music programs in their schools, and kids in less priviledged communities struggle to keep up. I'd like to do my small part to close that gap by offering scholarships to my studio for talented and driven students playing low brass instruments (trombone, euph/baritone, and tuba).

As you may already know, my scholarship campaign last year was a runaway success. I funded a full scholarship in less than a week, and because of the generosity of my donors, extended that money to provide 2 scholarships for the price of one. My students, Paul and Alex, both came to me from Fridley High School and have made amazing progress in the last year. You'll hear more from them soon.

Here's a link to last year's campaign: Husting Studio Scholarship '15

How will the scholarship work this year?
I've set a goal of $3000 this year- ambitious, but I have confidence it can be raised!
This can be used in two ways to be determined by me once I have applicants for the scholarship:
2 x $1500 Scholarship- a full year of lessons plus materials (music, etc). The student pays $5/lesson.
4x $750 Scholarship- a full year of lessons plus materials. The student pays $15/lesson.
Or a combination of both!
At least 50% of this year's funds will be earmarked for a student of color or a female student.

This year, for each additional $100 I raise, I'm going to offer my services 2x monthly as a clinician to a local school's band program that could not otherwise afford it.
That's 2 clinics @ $50 each per month for each $100 above my goal.

All backers will receive regular updates on student progress.

Please consider a small donation to help me get quality low brass instruction to communities that could use it! You will be doing your part to help me realize my lifelong dream to provide quality musical education to all students.
