Levittown Puerto Rico
Hurricane Maria recently struck a devastating blow to the island of Puerto Rico. Some areas were hit worse than others, this was certainly one of them. Information is limited, but what we know is that Levittown, home of my girlfriend Alice's mother, two brothers, sister, nephew, aunt, and uncle, and friends was submerged in 4 to 6 feet of water. The brief report we received said that they were initially okay, but since then we have had no contact. EVERYTHING they own has been destroyed and damage to the homes themselves has yet to be evaluated as water levels are still high and may even increase again.
How to help
Alice and I are hoping to raise as much money as possible to help everyone get back on their feet. We are raising money to replace necessities like beds to sleep on, a fridge, perhaps a generator, clothes, drinking water etc with leftover to rebuild and sustain them until the chaos has died down. We still do not know how relatives on the other side of the island have fared.
Island already in trouble
This catastrophe is hitting this island while it is already in the depths of a 120 billion dollar debt ((which at its roots was accumulated due to the U.S. exploitation of the island)) The repair process will be slow and for most people, completely unaffordable. Alice and I are hoping to ease that great burden for the family as much as we can. Anything you can spare will help.
