Hurricane Harvey Survival Fund

My name is Kerrie Girard, I am trying to raise money for my daughter Allyson. The donations used through this Go Fund Me campaign will be given to Allyson directly to assist with her living expenses as she was displaced from her home in Corpus Christi when Hurricane Harvey hit. Please consider helping after you read our story: What started out as an amazing journey for my daughter's new life in Corpus Christi, TX to attend college, quickly turned to devastation when a category 4 hurricane hit the the very town that we had just moved her to five days prior. The move itself caused us to be in a financial crisis, having lost several of the resources we were promised just before we left for Texas. We were able to get Allyson and her boyfriend to their apartment but Allyson's scholarship was to be disbursed on the first day of school and that was the only means of paying the expenses once she got there. Due to the hurricane hitting, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, the school is not starting classes on Monday and therefore, her scholarship funds are not going to be available until further notice. It could be weeks before the campus is open, heavy rains and flooding is expected into the weeks that follow, making the future uncertain at best.
We were able to buy a week's worth of groceries, fill her tank with gas and we left her with $160. When we said goodbye, the storm was a tropical depression and the kids were staying in their apartment. We had them as prepared as we could. Two hours after we left to come home to Arizona, we had word that they had to evacuate. She and John drove 150 miles west; they packed up the groceries, the cat and hedgehog and made it to safety. We are incredibly thankful for that but we have no means by which to help them return back to Corpus Christi or to even live or rebuild depending on the devastation they may find when they return. My family has exhausted all of their resources by helping with their current hotel stay. Since the scholarship covers Allyson's room and board and September 1st is quickly approaching, we have no way to cover her rent and I am sure they will be out of gas before they reach Corpus Christi and I'm not sure that $160 will even last them through this weekend.
We moved the kids to Texas in lieu of paying our own rent and bills. We are faced with our own financial hardship that is preventing us from being capable of helping during this horrible unforeseen disaster and I can't think of anything that is harder to face at the moment. We need help in order to help our daughter. We can recover financially, we always do and we have jobs but the kids don't have anything and I'm afraid this is just the beginning of a long road ahead for them.
