Hurricane Harvey Rebuilding Efforts

Donation protected

I never usually write anything on Facebook but after spending a week with my Aunt Amy who lost everything in hurricane Harvey I feel the need to share her story with everyone who wants to know how to help. First and foremost I want to say my heart goes out to all the families affected by the hurricanes that claimed their communities and also express my gratitude to all the volunteers and the local churches who have helped these communities. It has touched my heart to see so many people volunteering to donate and see how much we have raised for the victims — but has anyone asked where these funds are going? If you would like to directly help someone in need - now is your chance. I would like to share Amy's story and ask for your help in rebuilding her home.

Amy and her community are in the process of rebuilding their homes. 7,000 houses were affected in her town alone. Ever single room in her home of 30 years was flooded with sewage water and had to be completely gutted. She now waits for inspectors to get the time to tell her if her house is salvageable or not. She wanted to get a trailer or just a place she can call her home while she is in limbo. We found a trailer for $7,000 which she is unable to afford right now in the midst of losing everything except a small bag of clothes and a pair of sneakers which are now covered with the remnants of the sewage water. While the town is rebuilding she is working odd jobs and moving from house to house which has become quite overwhelming for her. Yet, she does it with a smile on her face and told me that when life presents a problem she always just thought it was a test and she would always just try harder and harder — but this time she said “it’s really getting hard to keep up the fight." Amy has been so active in the community and has met so many families that are going through the same struggle trying to find help with rebuilding. She has flood insurance, but it will take a long time before the funds come in. In the meantime she needs our help to start rebuilding.

Below a picture of the furniture that was turned into trash - from just one room in Amy's home. Since she lives in a single story house all the furniture below the 2 foot water line had to be thrown away in every single room. Just to name a few - beds, couches, cabinets, dressers, washer/dryer all had to be thrown away. This is not including all her family photos and

Below a picture of the volunteers that took down the drywall in every room to prevent the mold from spreading. The dry wall and floors were taken out of every room in Amy's home.

Together we can build a team to help Amy rebuild - starting with YOU.

I am reaching out to all the kind hearts who would like to help Amy during this time of need and asking for donations to help her rebuild her home. ALL donations are going to Amy Herrmann (except for the GoFundMe website fee). These funds will be used towards a place to live while she is rebuilding. This will at the very least take the burden off her shoulders knowing she has the financial means and stability to start moving forward. We will keep you updated on her progress and if we reach our goal we can use the extra funds to help the families in the surrounding areas. But we can only make this happen with your help. If you want to make a difference in Amy’s life, now is your opportunity. Please choose to donate even if it is the smallest amount -  A donation as small as $1 adds up to $100 when 100 people donate or $12 adds up $120 when 10 people donate. Every donation matters.

Thank you for taking time to hear Amy's story and joining together to make a difference in her life. Your donations and prayers will help Amy find hope and courage through this difficult time and we will keep you updated on her progress through this difficult time.

God Bless each and every one of you.
