Humanitarian relief for Beirut’s victims

As you may already know, on Aug 4, 2020, a massive explosion hit Beirut. A large part of the city became rubble and many lives and homes were lost.

As someone who grew up in Beirut it was really devastating watching our homeland crumble, the calamity that hit us is huge and we are still coming to terms with what happened. From looking at the horrific videos of the blast and talking to our loved ones in Lebanon, we knew the destruction was massive and realized we needed to help in any way we could.

The magnitude of this catastrophe is more evident as the country has had its fair share of the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, which already affected many families economically after losing their jobs.

This is why these victims need urgent intervention to cater to their basic needs.
As owners of Retour Bistro we have decided to offer 10% of all direct sales from our restaurant in the month of august as a donation to help the victims of the explosion. Beirut is on its knees and needs our help so we appeal to the public and our customers to join us in supporting this cause by donating to help the people recover from this unfavourable state as the lives and welfare of the people are dear to us.

The money donated for this will not be given to any Lebanese government support organization as they are known for their corruption and we want to help the local community directly.
This is why, all funds will be directed to Khouloud Fawaz. Fawaz is a recipient of the Mastercard foundation scholarship to pursue her masters in public health, she did multiple internships with MSF and UNICEF. She is also a volunteer counselor on a sexuality hotline operated by a local NGO called the “A project “ and is now helping in organizing grassroots relief and aid to the most vulnerable.

Some of the items that will be purchased with the money raised are the following:
diapers, baby formula, goggles, hard hats, thick gloves, food, water for the volunteers helping on the ground, cooking supplies for those who have lost their homes, and plastic sheets to cover the windows for those who cannot afford to fix them yet.
