Hubby has got a spinal injury because of freak accident

Hi my name is Denise I’m trying to raise funds to get my husband Steve out of hospital.

He is 77 and in March he slipped in the garden and is now quadriplegic. He has a spinal cord injury just from an innocent slip and will always be paralysed from the neck down.

He firstly went to royal Preston hospital in the intensive care where he was intubated and sedated then 10 days later he had a tracheostomy fitted and was put on a ventilator. He is likely to always need tracheostomy and ventilation for the rest of his life, so he hasn’t eaten anything since the fall but we are trying small amounts of water through a straw which he has been ok with up to now.

i’m trying to raise funds to get him home, he’s currently in Southport spinal injuries centre.

We need most if all a vehicle that steve will be able to get into.

He wont be entitled to PIP which allows you motobility even though he worked up to the age of 75 before retiring.

if anyone has any ideas about a vehicle for steve please let me know.

We are entitled to permanent ramps overhead hoist in the lounge and bedroom. But everything else we’ll fund ourselves if possible.

i want Steve to come home and feel like he’s home so going to bed at night upstairs is important to both of us.

When he comes home he will need 24/7 care by a team of around 20 nurses which will be funded by the NHS.

Our lives are going to change quite a lot but with Steve by my side I’m sure we will be ok. We’ve been together 45 years and I miss him lots.
