5 Day $5 Fundraiser for NWAC

My name is Leslie Hudson and I'm fundraising for the Native Women's Association of Canada, a National Indigenous Organization, and aggregate of thirteen Native women’s organizations, representing the political voice of Indigenous women, girls and gender diverse people in Canada.

I live on the traditional lands of the Ojibwe, Anishinaabe & Haudenosaunee Nations in Stratford ON Canada. As a touring indie musician I have travelled from the Great Lakes to the Pacific to the Atlantic to the Gulf and home again across the traditional and unceded territories, reservation lands, and landscapes of hundreds of Indigenous Nations. This is part of my giving back.

NWAC works on a variety of issues such as employment, labour and business, health, violence prevention and safety, justice and human rights, environment, early learning childcare and international affairs. They provide resources, education, financial support, scholarships, entrepreneurial programs & career opportunities for Indigenous women, girls, and gender diverse people in Canada.

This is a 5 Day $5 Fundraiser. From Nov 30 to Dec 5 2021, I'm asking for donations of $5 (or more). You can donate 5 ways: here, on Facebook, through PayPal, (if you're in Canada) by e-transfer, or by purchasing my music on Bandcamp . My new album Hemlock Honey and Crows Deluxe is available for pre-order for $5 until its release on Friday Dec 3. It will remain available at $5 until the end of this campaign on Dec 5. All purchases & donations from all these sources will go directly to NWAC.

I've been grounded at home for 2 years now, my livelihood threatened, recovering from depression and the loss of my mother last year, but I have a roof over my head, access to food & water, safety, and a supportive community. It's my privilege to donate and encourage you to donate what I can in support of the necessary and beautiful work NWAC does in this country.

November is Native American Heritage Month in the US. Tuesday Nov 30th is Giving Tuesday. NWAC is in the middle of their #AnswerTheCalls campaign for 16 Days of Activism on the 40th anniversary of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. There are so many reasons to donate.

For me this is an intersection of my desire to support Indigenous peoples, being a non-binary, queer person myself I am so thrilled that NWAC includes folks like me under their umbrella of support, and my deep commitment to the end of violence against women, girls, and gender diverse folks, and those in the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.
