I've been to, and through, San Francisco. But always en route to somewhere else. With kids in tow. Not looking anywhere but at the road ahead. As a tourist, when I was decades younger, doing tourist things, long before my shutterbug took hold. When I think of it, I think of Mark Twain, and the Beat poets, the Haight, the piers, the Gold Rush, Chinatown, social reform, weird street fairs, and flowering creativity. But I want to capture all that cumulative magic in the present day...get off the beaten paths, and find what makes the city tick. I want to do this intensively, by day and by night, solo. I can throw my sleeping bag down on the floor of extended family, while I'm there. I can walk, take the BART, and eat on the cheap. I'm saving for a Sigma Art Lens to do the city shoot justice...and tickets. Anyone who contributes in support of this will receive a print of my San Francisco photo safari.
