Toiletries for the Streets

Donation protected
This fundraiser was set up at the end of April to raise money for 500 emergency kits- due to the generous donations of over £3,000 and bags full of toiletries this was surpassed many fold. We have handed out around 300 emergency kits in direct outreach and with Streetskitchen and Food for All. Additionally we set up a monthly hand out with Little Things Uk in Hackney and occasional once’s on Trafalgar Square- 9  hand outs in total by the end of August- helping around 75 people each time with a range of toiletries. We have been in the local paper: Hackney Gazette The plan for autumn and winter is to provide 50 kits per months directly to rough sleepers on the streets- those to include at about £175 a month: Wet wipes, Tissues, Soap, Deodorant, Toothbrush and Paste, Sanitiser and Water. If money allows, we hope to have socks, gloves, hats and maybe even sleeping bags in winter as well. With numbers of people on the streets, in emergency accommodation and in financial trouble rising, it is essential to keep doing the monthly outreach at Shoreditch Firestation, where a broader variety is handed out, 50 of each cost around £250 a month: Shower gel, shampoo, razors, lotions, shaving gel At the same time I will widen the network of donation points and keep encouraging people to organise collections in their communities. We shouldn’t forget that the services for homeless are far from being back to normal. With hotels going back to business and winter shelters not allowed to open, this winter will be hard. So give what you can to make life just that tiny bit better. For updates follow us on Instagram: @toiletriesforthestreets to volunteer or set up collection points: [email redacted]Here the original pitch:I am raising money to provide 500 Emergency Hygiene Kits for the people still sleeping rough in Hackney but with hardly any access to facilities or even running water. Hopefully drop-in centres and other facilities will be able to open safely soon, but in the meantime we need to act quickly to help.  Any help highly appreciated, the rough sleepers will be grateful.I have seen the situation at Trafalgar Square, where I am helping handing out food to the homeless, it is quite sad to see so many people still on the street, numbers rising, with less support than before. It won't solve the problem, but the kits will at least ease the situation for the individuals temporarily. For the kit we will need: Plastic or Tote bags2 litres bottle of waterhand sanitisertoothpastetoothbrush and cover of folding brushdeodorantSoap bar6 pack of tissuesFacial wipesWet toilet wipeschocolate barsMORE DETAIL ABOUT THE PLAN AND HOW YOU CAN HELP HERE:https://www.notion.so/Emergency-Hygiene-Kits-Appeal-3bebf69279a24db7a1a5bf4a6f15d2d2With the help of volunteers from Hoxton West Mutual Aid and Re-action I hope to get 500 kits together over the next 4 weeks, 125 a week, to be distributed in Hackney in liaison with the outreach organisations, who provide food all over the borough. Surplus to be distributed in other hotspots, like Trafalgar Square and King's Cross. Please give what you can – if you are still paid, think about how much money you are saving right now :-)
