Houston relief efforts
Southern Sportsmen Disaster Fleet's primary mission is providing disaster relief to those most affected by environmental destruction. By joining the skills and experiences of military veterans, captains, outfitters, guides, outdoor athletes and enthusiasts with first responders, medical professionals, SSDF aims to provide rescue, relief, and safety to those in need.
August 25th, 2017. Category 4 Hurricane Harvey makes landfall along the Texas Gulf coast. Harbored by the storm a small group of Florida anglers knew that they could help. Sounding the call, what began as few turned into a fleet.
In less than 24 hours, members of the SSDF have already organized at ground zero with more support en route. Twenty five able bodied men from south Florida to west Texas, two rescue helicopters, three - 25 foot supply trailers, All of which are stocked with rescue gear and emergency resources.
SSDF is in contact with FEMA, as well as local resource/command and control centers in the area to make sure they deploy where they are needed most.
SSDF is a small non-profit organization. Thus far, only a small portion of our costs have been supplemented- The rest is being covered directly from our members pockets. Operating expenses will be costly, as are the miles away from home and family. If you would like to directly support the efforts, supply and operation expenses of the SSDF and know that 100% of your dollars will go to Texas hurricane disaster rescue and relief.
