Build a House for a Hardworking Tijuana Family

We are excited to announce that we are back to build another house for another family in 2020! We are grateful for any help - even five dollars makes an impact on a family's life!

Students from The Bishop’s School are working to have a lasting impact on the lives of struggling families in Tijuana by building a fourth home for a family in need with the Build A Miracle (BAM) organization.  To build and provide furniture for a solid 550 sq ft house, we are going to raise $16,000 this year and we are asking for your help to reach this goal.


We are reaching out to our family and friends here for financial support to build the miracle of a solid home for another hard-working family that currently has no plumbing and almost no shelter from the rain or cold. Bishop’s students have built three houses with BAM in the last three years.


After fundraising, students will work alongside the family and community members during three build days to mix concrete for the foundation, put up drywall, and paint the interior and the exterior of the house. Donors are welcome to join us on these build days as well!


Build A Miracle is a grass-roots philanthropy established in 1999 by the North family of San Diego who had an initial goal of building one house a year.  Twenty years later, BAM has built over 370 homes with and for residents of Tijuana’s El Florido community! Residents who receive a home are required to own their land, complete 500 hours of community service and keep their children in school at least through high school as most in the community do not continue past middle school.  


Living in a house versus a shack allows sponsored families to thrive rather than just survive.  Not only do the families gain a roof over their heads, a floor under their feet, and running water, but also they gain more freedom and security in their work while their children show improved performance in school.  In addition, they become part of the broader BAM community of 300+ sponsored families who support new and old members of the community.


The heart of BAM is the community center where residents can take classes to receive middle school and high school degrees, and/or classes in various trades, music, dance, and cooking, among others.  The importance of education is emphasized in this community through a high school and college sponsorship program that has already contributed to over 20 students receiving college degrees with 20 more expected to graduate soon.
