Hope & Healing for Alvin

At the beginning of October Alvin wasn’t feeling himself and went to the ER after a day of not keeping food down. He tested negative for appendicitis; the hospital stabilized him and returned him home. Alvin ended back in the ER because he was nonresponsive and could not wake up. The results of an MRI scan found inflammation in Alvin’s brain and spine. Doctors have ruled out MS and meningitis, and the family is awaiting additional lab testing results to pin point the cause. The inflammation caused Alvin to be bedridden and at first was unable to sit up or speak. A several day course of steroids has lessened the inflammation and he has taken his first steps and said a few words. Alvin is now stable and has been allowed to return home and is still bed ridden. He will be relearning walking, talking, and the day to day items we take for granted and will be doing three hours of therapy four days a week for the next several months. Costly therapy and testing will continue after he returns home.

Alvin’s family has been by his side 24/7 surrounding him with love and support. It’s been difficult trying to make sense of it all; Alvin being an active 2nd grader shining brightly playing soccer, basketball, hip-hop dancing and chess.
