Hope for Laura!

To all our dear friends and family,

Thank you for all your love, all your support, all your encouragement and the million ways (both tiny and huge) that you have been blessing us, strengthening us, holding us up and standing alongside us on this incredibly hard journey.  We cannot thank you enough for the overwhelming love we have been shown by everybody - we are just bursting with warmth and prayers even in the middle of these hardships.

We have been encouraged by many, many people to set up this page in order to provide the opportunity to help and support us financially in this time.  Laura has been unable to work for 2 years, and I have now had to stop work to support and care for her.

In the time we have - we want to make every one of Laura's dreams a reality!   We want to go to Bethel in California for their amazing healing ministry, she has ALWAYS wanted to do a parachute jump, she is dreaming of starting up her own beauty charity to lift up and restore other women, and (in true Laura style!) throwing a grand ball and renewing our wedding vows!

We need all of your help for this to happen, both practically and financially (maxxed out credit cards only go so far!), and travel insurance is EXTREMELY expensive for people in Laura's situation.  We are incredibly grateful for every single gift and donation that you are able to give us.  Thank you so much!

If you are just catching up with us or haven't heard our story, here is our journey so far:

Laura was diagnosed with a high-grade cervical adenoma in the summer of 2015 - a rarer form of cervical cancer that doesn't show up on normal screening.  We were caught up in the whirlwind of scans, exploratory surgery, trips to a specialist London clinic and trying to make sense of what was going on.  Laura's  oncology team were confident that with high-dose radiotherapy and 6 weeks of intensive chemotherapy, she stood a good chance of cure.  Many of you walked that journey with us, and helpd us through that hard, hard time, and we are so grateful and thankful for the endless kindness we were shown.

Despite a good initial response, a follow-up scan showed there were some residual active lymph nodes remaining  which our team couldn't really be sure what they were. Laura took the brave step of undergoing a major 3 hour operation to carefully explore and remove any of these nodes, which the surgeons felt went well as there was very little to see at the time.  As Laura recovered from the operation, we were all elated and celebrating that she had made it through, that this season was finished.

Two weeks ago, we came back to Laura's usual clinic just to follow up and see how things were getting on.  Neither we nor our oncology team were prepared for the results of the routine follow-up scan .

The cancer had come back; it had spread more widely, and was starting to affect other areas such as the kidneys and nerve roots.  Laura's doctors gave us the worst news; that now there was nothing they could do to stop this now.  Laura was rushed in that night to have another emergency operation to protect her kidneys from blocking.

There isn't really any way to prepare or deal with this kind of shock.  Many of you who have been affected by or have friends or family who have walked this road know the feeling.  We know better than anyone however, that medical wisdom goes only so far.  That the story of our lives, and Laura's Story is much, much bigger than this current circumstance.  We are choosing hope over all things, and to trust in our good, good Jesus who has been faithful to us for all of our lives so far.

Thank you so much for reading her story.  This is a hard time, but we find strength in good friends and good family.  We find joy in the unearned gift that is every single new day, and we hold firm to the promises that are over Laura's life and her future.

The only thing we ask of you is for your prayers!  Pray for power, pray for peace, pray for joy, pray for strength in hope, pray for the miraculous!  We love you all so much and thank you from the depths of our hearts.

Love always - Ben & Laura xx xx
