Spende geschützt
Hi, my name is Erin and I have created this GoFundMe page in hopes of helping my brother Chad (Chris) Canty financially with his monthly bills—and any future bills incurred while he remains in critical care and on life support at MUSC (in Charleston, SC). A little over three weeks ago (Jan 26th), Chad was admitted into the ICU at Piedmont Medical Center for what we thought were complicating issues from his diabetes. After performing many tests, doctors informed us that Chad had suffered a massive heart attack and needed an emergency heart catherzation. This procedure unfortunately had to be stopped because Dr. Amin discovered that his heart was only functioning at 20%. So a team of specialty heart surgeons was immediately called in to perform open heart surgery (triple bypass). Dr. Chan and his team revealed that not only was Chad’s heart affected, but he also suffers from kidney and lung failure. He had to be placed on dialysis along with ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation—which is the technique of providing prolonged cardiac and respiratory support to persons whose heart and lungs are unable to provide an adequate amount of gas exchange or perfusion to sustain life). Once Dr. Chan deemed Chad “stable” enough for transportation, he had him transported by medivac to MUSC in Charleston, SC. Soon after arrival to the Heart & Chest Pain Intensive Care Unit (located in the Ashley River Tower building) at MUSC, Chad suffered another massive heart attack. All efforts have been made to help sustain his heart, but they also have had to perform numerous lung bloc procedures to remove blood clots from his lungs. Chad is still in imminent danger of needing more procedures in the days to come. While we do not know the full extent of any neurological damage that may have occurred, doctors have confirmed that Chad had several mini strokes in the past that we were not even aware of.
Last week Chad finally opened his eyes for just a bit, and he was able to follow some simple commands from the doctors and nurses. We were so thankful for this positive sign, but then Chad unfortunately suffered another setback. His right lung filled up with blood and had to be blocked off in order to protect the other lung. Doctors are performing lung bloc procedures as needed to try to remove persistent blood clots from his lungs. Chad currently remains on kidney dialysis while the ECMO machine is doing the work of his heart and lungs. And in addition, he is now suffering from C-diff (Clostridium Difficile Colitis—which results from the disruption of normal healthy bacteria in the colon, often from antibiotics). All of this is absolutely a life altering situation that neither Chad nor our family ever thought possible. I created this page so I could reach out to all of our family and friends and ask for any donations or financial support that can help with Chad’s routine monthly bills as they continue to incur. Chad is the sole provider for his family, as his wife Cindy is disabled and unable to work due to being a dialysis patient awaiting kidney and pancreas transplants.
We understand that not everyone is able to donate monetarily. We would like to say that we consider it a donation when you keep Chad and our family in your prayers. We appreciate all support—no amount is too small and any amount given will truly make a huge impact. We want to say Thank You to everyone who has reached out to our family in any way. It was needed and very much appreciated. As a family we have “hope everyday” and an abundance of faith that our Lord will continue to heal Chad’s body from head to toe!! Please continue to keep Chad and my family in your prayers. Thank you!! The link for this gofundme page is: gf.me/u/2zspc2
