Homeless man reunited with his family

Luis Inga
(Please read this story)

He was a homeless man I met a year ago. He was living on Ferris ave in White Plains NY.  One thing that stood out to me was that he was kind,
loving and always had a smile on his face. I would try and give him
money any time I saw him but he wouldn't take it. I got to know him
more and more by speaking to him and also speaking to an owner of a
store on Ferris ave.

Luis had been homeless for seven years. He had a fall out with one of
his sons and was left out on the streets unable to contact any of his
family in Ecuador. Hearing his story, I didn't know what I would have
done if I was in his position. On top of him being homeless, he wasn't
able to see well because he had cataracts in both eyes. He barely knew where he was, where he was going and who he was speaking to. He also had no idea what time it was, what month or year we were in.

My family has this massive passion to help those in need. My mom and dad send clothes, money ,food, medicine, and toiletries for those in
need in Paraguay every year. Of course, I had to tell them about Luis.
My mom thought it would be a great idea to invite him over for
Thanksgiving and give him an opportunity to take a shower and
change into a fresh pair of clothes. As he spent the day with us, my
parents didn't have the heart to leave him in the streets again so we
officially took him in.  He now became part of the family.

My mom spent many days and hours  in the doctors office making sure he was in good health. Since he could not see she wanted to get
everything checked out and cleared. Thanks to the amazing doctors we met at Valhalla  we were able to get him surgery to take out his
cataracts. Good news since his various operations he can now see
again.  The one thing he still struggles with is his memory.

During our journey in the hospital we decided to to try and reach out to his family in Ecuador. It seemed so impossible for us to get in touch with his family until we asked our uncle who was Ecuadorian to help us out(We are Paraguayans by the way). Since our uncle visited so many
different cities in Ecuador, we had faith that he would be able to get us the answers we needed.  Not only did he know the city Luis lived in,
he knew who his family was too! We were able to get a phone number
in just 24 hours.

We were beyond excited, but it turns out his family was very angry with their father. As soon as my mom called his family and said Luis's name
they hung up. My mom didn't give up so she texts them through Whats-app and explains the whole story. They had no idea Luis was homeless
and thought he just didn't want anything to do with them.

We've been in contact with Luis's family for some time  now and think
its time for him to return to his family and make up for all the time he
has lost.

Now that Luis has this new opportunity to see his family again we did
not want to send him empty handed. His family are very hard working
people but  financially are struggling. Sending him there with nothing would not be fair after being homeless for so many years.

As a family we would like to make it easier for him and would like to
build a small house for him in the same city as his children.

This money we're trying to raise would all go to building him a small
home, property, medicine, medical expenses and for an aid. Since his memory is slowly deteriorating we want to make sure he has all his
necessities and is never left alone again.

My family usually doesn't ask for money, but we knew that this was
something we couldn't do alone.

Luis leaves November 8th and I'm just trusting that God would help
before he leaves.

It would mean the world to us and especially Luis and his family to help us.

Every dollar is appreciated. I truly would mean the world.
