Homeless Army Veteran In Need

Lisa is a 53 year old homeless Army Veteran who honorably served from 1992-1997. Her dog, who is always with her, is named Mitch.
Lisa's finances began a downward spiral after a 20 year long marriage ended. In early 2019 she was evicted from her home in Charlotte, NC, and for about 7 months, she bounced around without a stable home. During this time Lisa inquired about many different services accessible to her but was discouraged time and time again. Lisa eventually lost hope and began living in a tent(a tarp with sheets for walls) in the woods. Lisa picked a spot in the woods close enough to the general services she required for survival.
After the storms/tornadoes that occurred in Charlotte on February 6, 2020, I sent a message to Lisa asking if she had weathered the storms okay, not knowing that she was homeless. That's when she told me that she was living in a tent in the woods.
These funds will initially be used to provide safe, clean, and dry living arrangements, food, and transportation while we look to find Lisa a job and a permanent residence. This is not someone wanting a handout, just a hand up.
Funding for Lisa is needed as soon as possible. Currently, we only have enough funds to provide Lisa with safe lodging for 6 days. Our top priority is keeping Lisa in a safe place while her applications for possible services are processed. Getting back on your feet after what she has been through is not easy to do. Having a small dog makes it hard to find places to stay too. All of the agencies that are out there to “help”, still make it difficult to really get back in the mainstream. In order for Lisa to stay in a safe place at this time we need funds as soon as possible.
I have known Lisa for many years and I know that she is a very strong person. She has fallen on hard times and needs help. I know that if Lisa is provided with the help she needs, she will work hard to climb out of the despair she has fallen into. There are no words to describe what your contribution, kindness, and support for Lisa would mean.
