Hello, my name is Robert P. Ford, Jr., of Akron, Ohio, Founder of a non-profit organization called FOREVER R CHILDREN. It's our ultimate mission to provide every child within our community food packages, shoes, clothing, and much-needed backpacks filled with school supplies. On August 29, 2020, we had a very successful event where we were prepared to hand out packages to over 200 families and the turnout was phenomenal!
Like many within our community COVID-19 has hit us very hard. I want to take a moment to give my heartfelt condolences to those who've lost loved ones as a result. All of our lives have forever been altered. Some have lost jobs, and many of our children are losing out on important experiences and being reduced to having to take classes virtually, nothing is the same and we can literally take nothing for granted.
One day back in November 2018, I attended a local football game and I happened to notice several children who were improperly dressed for the season so I immediately took action by going home and gathering up things that I'd stored away and wasn't using such as coats, and shoes, etc., the next day when I returned, packages in hand, I spoke with several educators who confirmed that this was an ongoing issue. The very next morning I spoke with some friends and together we decided to purchase $1,000 in food and clothing and divided it among two high schools within the Akron Public School system. We were able to feed and clothe 87 students for Thanksgiving during that year and there's been no looking back!
Since then I've developed a 501 c3 that is designed and focused on providing children and families in need with adequate meals, clothing, and school supplies required to sustain a healthy worry-free balanced life. We are a non-profit charitable organization open to the public. We offer care packages every three weeks to any and everyone in need. Our next food drive will be on Saturday, September 19, 2020, from 12 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
We need your help to keep this going because the need in Akron is greater than anticipated and unfortunately growing. We need to raise $10,000 to move into a building with a refrigerator for our perishable items and that is our most urgent need to date. We also have a lot of non-perishable items that need to be stored on a continuous basis because we've run out of space, so please give what you can, every dollar helps and is very much appreciated!
