Holweger Cancer Fight

In June my mom (Lori Holweger maiden name Werre) had an endoscopy and a few biopsies taken in her stomach and small intestines. In early July one of the biopsies in her small intestine came back as a rare carcinoid tumor.  Though we think it was caught early and she may only need a surgery to remove it and cut out some of her small intestine (we are hopeful) the oncologist/surgeons in either local hospital will not see her. We were informed that they think it is to dangerous and rare for them to tackle it here so they are referring her to Mayo! We do not have exact dates yet to the appointment in Mayo as that is still being hashed out as to who exactly will see her and treat this. What we do know though is that everything needs to happen quickly leaving us little to no time to come up with extra funds for them! We need help! 

My parents have been married 34 years and my dad (Rick Holweger) has been the primary bread winner and provider; as my mom was a stay at home mom for many years and in the more recent years due to other health issues and medications she has not worked and can not drive.  

We do not yet know what insurance will or will not cover as far as the needed surgery and or further treatments. What we do know is that my dad will need to take off work to take her to further appointments/surgery. My dad doesn’t get vacation pay or sick pay at his job. There will be many travel expenses including gas, food, hotel, etc... and on top of those expenses my dad will have lost wages that cover their household bills and care for my developmentally disabled brother that he also cares for.  So we are asking for help to cover these expenses so that my parents (Rick & Lori Holweger) can solely focus on mom’s treatment.
