Holiday Cheer: A Vision for the Future

For those who do not know, my mother works at HISD in the special education department, more specifically she works with the visually impaired students. She works tirelessly day and night to make sure that these children are given the best education and resources out there for them to succeed in their lives. While my mother does work with the children she also helps the families out when she can like buying groceries, giving them rides, gifts for holidays and birthday.        This year has been tremendously hard for these families. The children can not do online learning as easy as everyone else can and costs have been adding up with taking ubers and having to pay for educational materials at home.
So my mother suggested creating a benefit to help three of her students and their families.
Due to HISD privacy laws I am not able to name the children because they are under 18 but I can give a brief description.

One family is a single mother and daughter, the daughter completely lost her eyesight at 16 years old in the span of a few months.
One family has 3 children under the age 10 and two of them are completely blind while the third child is low vision and can only see shadows/lights.
One family has a boy who is 8 years old and is completely blind and loves music.
 

Graciously Mariana the owner of Avant Garden has agreed to let us use her beautiful garden
patio to host a benefit December 13th at 2:00 to raise money and collect gifts for the families. 


Our event is being catered by Southern Kitchen Catering. A huge thank you to Mr. Sean Cross who has agreed to give 50% of the sales to the families as well. I will have a menu for him posted shortly!
