Etowah NC Historic Cemetery - New Split-Rail Fence
Donation protected
- This Etowah, North Carolina historic cemetery on Pleasant Grove Road has an exceptional role in the story of Henderson County, est. 1838. Here is the burial ground for the county's first appointed sheriff, Robert Thomas (1806-1865) and his wife, Susan Reese Thomas (1809-1885), located on what is left of the Thomas farm homestead.
- We are raising funds to install a new western red cedar, split-rail fence to replace the storm-damaged and degraded old 2007 picket fence shown in the photos.
Etowah cares about its community history. Since 2014, volunteer residents have been taking care of the abandoned cemetery, and this work is ongoing. There are 31 burials of Thomas and Fletcher family relations and others on .3 acres. Your generous donation for the new fence will help bring dignity and beauty to the Thomas-Fletcher Historic Cemetery for generations.
