Hi my name is Kirkland Stone and I’m a father in desperation fighting for my rights as a father. Currently I am goin through a custody battle for my three year old daughter and the odds have been stacked against me due to me living in a state where the mom is considered the soul parent directly after birth and the importance of a father is determined at the mother’s discretion. This has been an on going battle since my daughter was about six months of age and I’ve received the short end of the stick from the very beginning. My daughters mom and I aren’t the best of friends and as a result of that I was not allowed to be apart of my daughters life until about two weeks prior to her second birthday. However in between the times that I was not allowed in my daughters life and the start of my case I filed for joint custody and reached out to my daughters mom several times but my efforts were not enough, my daughters mom and I had a short term relationship it didn’t last long but we didn’t end on a bad note, we agreed to be cordial and always do what was best for our child. As time went on I moved on and rekindle a relationship with my now fiancée and from then on things went downhill as far as me and my daughters mom getting along. Since then I’ve had two more children that I’m a full time father to and I’m considered when it comes to their best interest. I pay child support/child care for my daughter and I physically try to do as much as I can but my efforts are always undermined and I’ve had the hardest time trying to make an impression as and be a father to my daughter and it’s killing me. I have hired a lawyer but due to conflict of interests he had to resign and his firm told me that he would have to pass my case on so I need a new lawyer. With Michigan custody battles or cases it’s always a wait when it comes to the father being able to express his side of the story, and due to all of the friction and the courts not yet awarding me any type of custody outside of a court ordered parenting schedule, our father and daughter relationship is being hindered.
