Hilary Irwin Medical Recovery
I'm setting this campaign up for Mel's sister Hilary. She was struck by a semi crossing the street in New Orleans and suffered severe trauma.
She is currently still in the ICU on a ventilator.
Her injuries are extensive, from pelvic fractures and numerous
lacerations and avulsions, to all of her ribs being broken multiple times. She's had surgery to put rib plates in in an effort to expedite the healing in an attempt to get her off the ventilator.
The truck that struck her didn't stop. The driver ran a red light and
claimed he didn't know he hit anyone. She was drug for nearly forty feet before finally rolling out from under the truck. Police had to chase the
truck down and stop it.
Hilary faces a very, very long road of recovery. She is single and was
living on her own. The day of the accident her mom flew in to spend a
week with her. When she was unable to reach her by phone, Carol went to Hilary's job to look for her. They hadn't seen or heard from her either. While she was there the ER called her and informed Carol of the accident. While tragic, it was a blessing her mother was there.
Carol is still in New Orleans with Hilary. But being there is a major
financial burden. Carol is on Social Security and is battling cancer
herself. Her health is always an issue for her as she battles for Hilary. At the moment, Carol's husband, Frank, is with her. But he has to return to Oklahoma to return to work as he is the sole provider.
Mel and I are doing all we can to support Carol, but it's getting really
expensive. Carol cannot drive and has to use Lyft and Uber to get to and from the hospital everyday. Not to mention Carol's daily needs and
maintaining Hilary's apartment, the expenses are really adding up.
Every dollar donated here will go to supporting Hilary and her mom
during this difficult time. Hilary is a fighter and is improving, every small victory is celebrated as her outcome is still uncertain. She's facing years of surgeries and skin graphs. It's tragic that something like this
happened to such a young and vibrant soul. As family, we are doing all
we can.
Now, we're asking you, our friends, her friends, to come to her aid as
well. Every dollar will help, so please, help.
We will keep everyone updated on her progress and ask for everyone
to keep Hilary in your thoughts.
