Help Starter Market Reporter Get To NABJ Miami

My name is Leon Purvis. I am a Multimedia Journalist for the NBC and CBS Affiliate in Eureka, California. I've have been fortunate and blessed to get my registration and flight to National Association of Black Journalist (NABJ) Convention 2019 in Miami Sponsored. The Convention is from August 7 - 11. Now, I have to find a way to afford a hotel (with roommates), money for food, and expenses.
Eureka is my first market fresh out of college. I graduated from Rowan University in May of 2018. Right after graduation I tossed up my cap, packed my car, and drove 3,000 miles from South Jersey to Eureka, California (Market 195) in four days by myself to get my on-air start. It didn’t matter to me where I went for my first job, and I just wanted to get that first opportunity and that one yes.
Since reporters don’t make a ton of money their first job and I am supporting myself out here, I work seven days a week. On my two days off I work at K-Mart in McKinleyville as a Front-End Supervisor to make extra cash. Therefore, I don’t have a day off. I made a post about it Linkedin so other people can know, having a side hustle is nothing to be ashamed of.

I love what I do, and am passionate about every story I cover. There is not a day that goes by where I take my job for granted.
I am eager and hungry to continue to thrive in this industry, and I firmly believe attending in Miami NABJ would be a fantastic opportunity for me to help further along my career path. I hope that you will be able to help me along the way.
