Oscar Tomasich - Help him rebuild
Spende geschützt
You've probably read the FB Group description already; if so, then skip a few paragraphs until you see, "PART II".
OK... For those of you that do not know Oscar, my apologies. I invited anyone in my FB friends list that were either teammates, friends, acquaintances, or college alum with Big O. You may be from the Theodore area... I invited you too! Some of the guys I know don't have a FB page, so if you're the wife, please pass long. I even invited some of the Univ of Mobile ballplayers (even wives) that maybe played against Oscar. The remainder of you are probably friends of mine in the ...baseball world because you know the crede we live by: we take care of our own and we pay it forward when we can! I also may have invited you because you do business with our firm.
I'll get to the details in a moment... but Big O was my first college catcher. He was a mentor and was the first teammate to try and put me in my place. Didn't work to well but I will say that what he did try to do for me was positive; I just didn't appreciate until several years later. I just had some growing up to do, that's all.
Well... Oscar is a victim of the recent floods in Louisiana. I'm going to help him rebuild the partial loss of his house and try and get him new furniture, kitchen cabinets, flooring, sheetrock, insulation, electrical work, painting, appliances, etc... Everything that you and I take for granted every day.
PART II - Please consider a donation to ease the cost burden. FEMA will be of limited financial help and there is no flood insurance. Before you ask why, understand that this wasn't a 100 year rain even. This is an unprecedented flood event. None of us would have had flood insurance in his area either.
It is not in Oscar's nature to ask for help. Nor I and most of you. But he needs some assistance and let's offer what we can.
He's gotten the entire house demo'd from the flood line to slab level. The walls are open to the studs and drying out as we speak. As soon as we get a certification that he is allowed to rebuild (we're researching how to go about this so if you can help in that regard, please contact me), let the work begin.
First step is to insulate the walls, get sheetrock hung/finished/painted, and install new doors throughout. Trimwork, door hardware, flooring, cabinets, furniture, and appliances to follow.
GoFundMe has reached out to me to provide a bit more transparency to the cause. Patty (my bride) is a CPA and we've discussed how to provide the most bang for the buck. My intent is to create a job within the company and end up with a zero balance at the end of our campaign. This will eliminate Oscar from any liabilites re: the IRS, claimed income, Oscar having to pay direct for materials and labor, etc... I will provide documentation for all expenses associated with what happens with the work and donations. If all goes well, we can cover the work and have a nest egg to provide to Oscar at the end so he and his daughter can have a little pocket money to spend at their discretion.
Please offer your suggestions and help me avoid any pitfalls if you see any coming our way. As they say, no good deed goes unpunished...
Thank you for your time and consideration everyone!
