Help Me Help Trina!

Donation protected
This is my friend Trina (or “TT”), and we talk several times a week. We chat about all sorts of things and honestly, aside from my partner, I would say Trina is my biggest cheerleader. She really is just so supportive. I’m truly, truly appreciative of her friendship. She gives me so much.

Trina’s 29 years old, trans, and from LA. She is *such* a romantic. She loves listening to music (it sounds like she's been listening to the Mariah Carey Christmas album pretty nonstop lately). She’s super into vampires, and is reading the Vampire Academy series right now. She recently humored me and read my favorite book, though I’m not sure she liked it (and she's way too sweet to ever admit something like that).

Trina’s incarcerated, being held for a non-violent property crime in the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison in Corcoran, CA. Please don’t let the facility’s title fool you - she doesn’t receive any mental healthcare, or anything even remotely resembling “treatment”. It’s a prison, and specifically it’s a “men’s only” prison. She’s referred to and has to interact with her deadname regularly. Additionally, her yard has been under lockdown twice in the last month because guards are not following proper COVID protocol and as a result have infected hundreds of inmates.

Not only does the facility holding Trina invalidate her identity and put her in danger on a daily basis, but they keep 55% of any money sent to her for restitution. Her mental and physical health is woefully neglected while she continues to pay the State. It’s deplorable, this system is heinous, and Trina needs support.

I'm asking for help paying her restitution off ($1300) to alleviate the additional financial stress. I’m also asking for $400 to help with her packages for the next few months (packages include food, PPE, and things like make-up and other personal items that help Trina feel like herself). If you can’t help with money, please consider sending Trina a holiday card (she celebrates Christmas). Since the yard is in lockdown, she is unable to take or make calls and the only contact she has with the outside world is via written correspondence. To clarify, there is no way for her to hear her loved ones’ voices during this holiday season. Please understand how difficult that is for someone sitting in a cell worrying about getting sick. If you’re willing, message me and I’ll gladly send you the necessary mailing information.

Finally, if you’re unable to give money or send a card, boosting this fundraiser is also very helpful and would be greatly, greatly appreciated.
