Help undocumented survivor see her daughter again

Donation protected
Please help an undocumented survivor of domestic violence reunite with her daughter for the holidays!

Jiyoon* hasn’t seen her daughter, Yura*, since September. Her abusive ex-boyfriend, who has full custody, has always used his custody over Yura
to coerce and manipulate Jiyoon—going as far as stopping visits when she refused his sexual advances on her, or when she didn’t invite him to social outings with her friends. In another episode of abusive and coercive control over Jiyoon, he is again keeping their daughter from seeing her mother. This time, it came within days of Jiyoon’s mother in Korea passing away—whose funeral she could not attend due to her legal status.

Her ex-boyfriend won custody of their daughter after he called the police on her for defending herself. Even though he has repeatedly battered and choked Jiyoon, she was the one who was put on trial, convicted, and jailed. Her criminal record resulted in her losing her parental rights. Because she is undocumented, the judge on her case ruled that she could not have even partial custody of her child until she had her green card—which could take years, even though she has petitioned for status as a victim of domestic violence. And because Jiyoon is low income, she has not been able to fight any of this in court due to not being able to afford an attorney.

We are now fundraising to help Jiyoon find an attorney who will help her see her daughter again, and eventually help her regain custody. Our goal is for Jiyoon to see Yura again before the new year, for the holidays. Please help us support both mother and daughter in reuniting, and in healing from abuse together.
